The Woes of Growing Out a Short Cut

Contrary to popular belief (mostly from my husband), I really do want to grow my hair out again! I have had short hair for over 6 years now, and I think it is safe to say that I understand the frustrations of trying to grow it out. Every stage of the growing out process lends its own set of challenges. There are always those spots that just won’t lay right no matter what you do with them! There are a few key elements however, that will help you grow your hair out if you are patient enough to let them work (don’t be like me and chop it all off again because of one day’s frustration!) A consultation with your hair stylist is your first step. Ask her for suggestions on how best to grow out your particular style and hair type. Maybe you need to grow the layers out first and then the length. Perhaps the best solution is to grow out “holes” in the baseline of the cut first and then work on the length and layers at the same time. Whatever your solution, it is vital that you schedule regular trims with your stylist. Your stylist should be your support system to keep you motivated on the path to long hair! She can shape up any “problem areas” during the process, making the growing out stages much more manageable and much less stressful. Another key to growing your hair out is nutrition. It is very important that you are getting enough water and that your body is taking in enough of the proper vitamins it needs. Poor nutrition will slow down the growth of your hair. Also, taking good care of your scalp by using professional products will also stimulate hair growth. If you have good support from your stylist, a healthy diet, and a lot of patience then you will be able to grow your hair out without going crazy!
