Happy New Year!

I love a new year! It’s a time for new beginnings, resolutions, and fresh starts. It’s become somewhat of a joke between my husband and I, but every year I state my new year’s resolution as “no major changes this year!” But, every year something major happens and my new year’s resolution is left by the wayside. We’ll see how 2011 goes. This year my motto is “only good major changes!” LOL.

Okay, I know this may sound random, but stay with me. Last week I finally watched the movie “Julie & Julia”. I actually thought it was pretty slow-moving with a very mundane ending. However, it stirred something up inside of me that I can’t help but write about. Julie’s dream was cooking. It soothed her, relaxed her, and gave her some sense of security and peace, but she wanted to do something with it that would make an impact on people. That’s how I have always felt about cosmetology. When I am working on a color or style it is almost therapeutic. I have dreamed of working in a beauty shop since I was 5 years old. Now that I have achieved my dream, I often feel like it’s not enough. I don’t want to be just another stylist who “does hair” the rest of her life. I want to create. I want to inspire. I want to make a difference in people’s lives. In the movie, Julie decided to challenge herself to cook through the entire Julia Child cookbook in 365 days and then write a blog about it. I have no such ambitions, but I do want to do something this year that will stretch my talent as well as my character.

My blogs will hopefully become more frequent and will be intended to benefit salon patrons, students in beauty school, and even other hair stylists. I have some idea’s in the works for this year that I will reveal when they are fully formed. In the meantime, if any readers out there have ideas, requests, or input about something you would like to see this year I would more than welcome them.

Stay tuned! I have a feeling 2011 is going to be a fantastic year!!
